ss vs z28 springs
ss vs z28 springs
Can someone tell me if there is a difference between the SS springs and Z28 springs? Are LS1 springs the same as LT1 springs?
Thanks!
I tried a search but it is impossible to find specific info on "ss springs" because it won't search on "ss".

Re: ss vs z28 springs
SS springs are not the same as Z28 springs and LT1 Z28 springs are not the same as LS1 Z28 springs...
This website will give you the difference in rates for the different springs.
http://www.angelfire.com/my/fastcar/suspension.html
Also, for future reference, when you are using the search utility on this site and need to search for something like ss springs, put the whole phrase in quotes "ss springs" and the search engine will look for it as a phrase rather than as 2 seperate terms one of which is too short to be acceptable.
I hope that this helps.

Re: ss vs z28 springs
Thanks for the tip
I don't see the SS springs listed on that link. Only V8 vs. V6. Are they the 1LE srpings?
I am trying to find out if the SS springs had a ride height drop for an LT1 car. I am upgrading from salad shooters to 17" SS rims and will be gaining ~.508" in ride height. I want to drop back down to the previous height and maybe loose a little gap. I don't want it to look lowered though as I prefer a stock look.

Re: ss vs z28 springs
I think that the "ss springs" are listed as 1le on that chart... I don't think they change the ride height at all.
I also don't think you will gain ride height when you go to the SS rims... the wheels are bigger but the tires that go on them are lower profile and the circumference of the tires are the same as the stock tires on the 16"salad shooter rims.

Re: ss vs z28 springs
Well from my rough calculations:
The tires I have now
245*.50 = 122.5mm = 4.822" tall
16" rim + 4.822" tire = 20.822" total height
The tires on the new rims
275*.40 = 110mm = 4.33" tall
17" rim + 4.33" tire = 21.33" total height
21.33-20.822= .508" difference in total height of rim/tire
What I forgot to do initially was cut that in half, because only half of that height is below the axle (right?).
So theoretically there will be a .254" ride height increase.

Re: ss vs z28 springs
Your math is pretty close, but you forgot to count the sidewall height for both the top and the bottom...
The tires you have now
245*.50 = 122.5mm = 4.822" tall
16" rim + (4.822" tire *2)= 25.644" total height
The tires on the new rims
275*.40 = 110mm = 4.33" tall
17" rim + (4.33" tire *2)= 25.66" total height
Assuming a little rounding error in the mm to inch conversion, you can see that the tires are identical height.
If you want to reduce the ride height, you'll need to get some lowering springs...
Good luck.
