Should I bother with ls1 front brake conversion or upgrade rotors and pads on 96z28?

Should I bother with ls1 front brake conversion or upgrade rotors and pads on 96z28?

I have seen the conversion to ls1 front brakes or will the car stop good enough with just upgraded rotors and pads? The car will be in the 425 or so engine hp range with possibly another 125 or so of spray occasionally. Are the lt1 brakes up to the task if upgraded to better rotors and pads.I won't be doing any crazy autocross stuff and maybe very occasional track runs.

The LS1 brake upgrade should still offer improved gains over a LT1 setup with better pads and rotors. Also, it is not a very expensive swap to do at all. I paid a 150 bucks for the complete LS1 front brake assemblies from a local board member. Now I just got to get around to installing it.

The short answer is yes... woof! The car will stop eventually...
As to whether it will do it quickly or not, that is a different story...
Over all, it is more important to be able to slow down
(and stop) than it is to go fast...
Any efforts (and money) put into the braking system
is well spent!
The LS1 brake upgrade is an very good way to achieve
improved braking at a reasonable price!

I would do the LS1 setup. The LS1 setup in stock form owns the LT1 setup with upgraded pads.

If you aren't going to be autocrossing/road racing and want to drag racing, I heard its better to stay with the lt1 brakes, since they are smaller and you can fit more drag wheels over them... again, just what I heard...

Definately worth it.
Much less brake smell and fade
especially when coming off the highway
at 90-100 mph onto the off ramp.

Oh, your LT-1 spare won't fit the LS-1 brakes but if that's a concern get a spare from a wrecking yard.

IMO GM admitted that the LT1 brake setup was a marginal design and that's why the LS1 got a brake upgrade. The LS1 rotors are and 1" larger in diameter and the calipers are a dual piston design. You will definitely benefit with better brake pads on your LT1 setup, but if you can get a good deal on an LS1 setup, go for it.
