removing rear discs... LS1

Its been almost 60K miles and I feel the need to paint my calipers and have my rotors turned..

on the rear, I cant seem to get them to budge.. any ideas?
I tried a 2lb sledge on a 2x4 on the rear disc and it wont move at all.. soaking them in lube now to see if that helps.. any other ideas?

are these freakish? do they not remove in the standard way?

also.. the small retainers that go on the studs next to the disc, do you all replace the broken ones or just leave them off?

just wondering..

TIA!

With the thin metal retainers removed, the rotors should fall off (unless rusted to the axle hubs on the back). It's not really necessary to replace the retainers. Someone once said they were put there on by the factory to keep the rotors from falling off on the assembly line.

nope.. parking brake is off.. as are the calipers so the brake being on would be a non issue..

actually, its not a non-issue, LS! rear brakes do not use the caliper for the parking brake, there is a drum inside the hat part of the rotor and shoes inside that, can you turn the rotor?(p-brake not stuck on?)

does the rotor wiggle on the axle at all? if no, just keep spraying with rust penatrant and hitting with the hammer

actually, the metal clips DO hold the rotors/drums on at the plant, but the biggest thing is, they hold it on during shipping, they serve no other purpose, you can leave them off
