Removal of ABS

My ABS in the 95 Z28 has never worked properly...when it was under warrenty I took it in and they kept the car, got the "ABS INOP" light off and after a few miles it was back on. It has been like that (Off and On)for 148,000 miles. I see no benefit and in hard stops do not feel or hear it's particpation. Is there a downside to removal? Has a proceedure been written here or somewhere with steps to remove the entire gizmo?
