Rear Suspension Questions

Here are the details:

'96 Camaro 3.8l TTops

196,556 Miles

I replaced the rear shocks last fall. The car has tons of body roll while cornering. It also bottoms out on small bumps. I have done nothing else to the rear suspension. I am a DYI kind of guy. I do not have much experience with suspension. If someone can tell me what is needed, or at least what to look for/ measure, I would appreciate it. I am on a limited budget, so expensive performance parts are out of the question. This is my daily driver, so I just need a reliable/ comfortable ride. My front and rear Drivers tires are wearing bald on the outer edges. I need to get new tires soon, but need to fix the suspension first, then tires & alignment.

The best place to purchase the parts would also help. If I can get a whole energy suspension bushing kit somewhere, that would be wonderful.

Thanks in advance for your assistance..........

body roll

i would check all the bushings. start with the sway bar bushings and work your way out. you said the tires are bad.. are they leaking air? if so, a low tire pressure will make body roll more prominent. jegs, summit and even orileys car poly urethane bushings individual or in a kit.

Basically replace all the suspension bushings, either with stock pieces (rubber) or aftermarket (poly); then get the alignment and such. Should run ~$150-$200 for all the bushings; and a long afternoon to replace all them.

In my opinion, (as an experienced race driver), and others may argue the point, but body roll is a fuction of spring rates and sway bars, (AKA anti roll bars) while poly bushings may help, a Z28 front bar may help, but in terms of bang for the buck, I would get a set of eibach prokit springs. Summit sells a house brand that they claim to be the equivelent for $169. (check to make sure they fit on V6 spring perches)
That wold flatten it out quite a bit.

Check tire pressure. outer and inner wear combined would indicate low pressure.
only worn outers on the front would indicate negative camber which is good for handling. I don't know how you can get only outer wear on the rears, (check to see if it is insides also.
