Rear brake pads only contacting 1/2 the rotor

New brakes all the way around on the car, new calipers on the rear with new pads and rotors. The pads are only using 1/2 of the rotor, anyone know whats up? The outermost 1/2. The part of the rotor closest to the hub the pad is not touching. Wrong pads?

What brand rotors and calipers did you get?

If it's the wrong pads...should not have fit correctly in the calipers. I'm thinking wrong rotors maybe? I would be good to know what brand and p/n you installed.

Pads fit fine, LOOK identical to what came off. I think you are correct on the rotors.

Thanks

I've seen that on the rear a few times. Normally, they will fully contact the rotor when they get just a little wear in them.

Yeh the car sat for a LONG time, the left rear caliper was dragging so I put all new stuff on the rear with new rotors and pads on the front. Car still will not stop worth a damn. I think I need a vacuum can or go to manual brakes. I got a large cam in it.

I took the ABS off the car and just plumbed the lines together, I had read a bunch of opinions as to whether or not the car needs a proportioning valve or not. I elected not to.

Thanks guys

David

So how much vacuum do you have? And as far as the proportioning valve, there fairly cheap, why not throw one in to fine tune the front to the back? Do the brakes get any better once they have a little heat in them?

Sounds like the rotors have spread so the pad faces are not parallel with the rotor faces. It will wear in in time like shoebox said. I suspect its caused by driving with the parking brake on, heating the calipers enough to deform them.

+1 vote for needing to break the pads into the rotor. Just did a ceramic pad swap all the way around, and had to go break them in hard to get them to set in right. It will happen through usage.

No park brake on the car, all the stuff is brand new.
