Rear brake job helpful hint

Rear brake job helpful hint

Well, I replaced my rear brake pads this weekend, and I learned something that I wanted to pass along.

When re-tightening the bolt that you undo to pivot the caliper up, do not go gorilla on it. It does not take that much torque to break the silly thing. I just kept turning on it, and it didn't feel all that tight, and then suddenly it was in two pieces. Added about two hours to the job, having to remove the broken piece with an Easyout and then go hunting for a replacement bolt.

So be warned, hopefully no one else will make the same mistake I did.

Also GM recommends *replacing* that bolt when it is removed. Frankly I think thats a bit extreme but I can see a few loosen/tighten cycles might be enough to stress the bolt out. I just loctite it when reinstalling the bolt and replace it about every 4 cycles.
