Questions about LS1 brake upgrade

I have the basic stuff to do the LS1 upgrade. I have a few questions:

1. Will the calipers fit inside the stock 16" rim?

2. Do the LT1 brake lines fit to the LS1 calipers?

3 Isn't there an online guide of how to do this (I know there is I just can't remeber the site)?

I know there are more questions but I can't think of them right now. All help will be appreciated.

Yes

Yes

I think so, but its basically 3 castle nuts, bolt up the new, put the brake lines back on. A search would yeild alot of install info. If you cant find anything I'll write something up.

1) Yes, as above

2) Not sure if you can bolt the stock LT1 rubber lines to the LS1 calipers. I used new LS1 rubber lines. The hard line will connect for sure though.

3) Yes, there's a write-up: http://www.fbody.com/tech/details.cgi?id=30

2 Yes but use the banjo bolt from the LS1 caliper. You may have to bend the bracket where the flex line connects to the hard line down to get enough slack in the lines.

I used the LS1 lines and bracket but had to bend the hard line to fit.

Re: Questions about LS1 brake upgrade

i used earl stainless steel lines meant for a truck..

LS1 brake upgrade was probably the cheapest yet best upgrade i ever did.. and ive done a lot of upgrades..

I valeted cars through college and got to really see how badly LT1 brakes suck... Put the LS1's on and now I consider the camaro as being able to brake well..... But some of those exotics are still insane in teh way they brake.

Hey Zdriver how was the fit with those hard lines? Which truck did you use for the lines?

i dont remember.. u can give earl's a call and ask them. LS1 lines will fit.. or bend the LT1 tabs that hold the brake line and they'll just fit supposively...

Anyone know the number to Earl's brake ? Anyone know about how long the brake lines are supposed to be compared to the stock ones?

Re: Questions about LS1 brake upgrade

If you could get hoses that are about 3" longer than stock LS1 rubber lines, you'll be set, and you shouldn't have to bend the hard lines to fit.

Re: Questions about LS1 brake upgrade

One BIG question now. I have ABS and Traction control. Is there anything special I have to do when bleeding the front brakes or is it just normal bleeding?

Just bleed them normal. I did when I did mine, and they're working great.

Re: Questions about LS1 brake upgrade

Does everyone agree that the lines should be about 3" longer than the stock LS1 lines? I am about to get some made and would like to see everyone's opinion on this. I thought about 2 1/2" might do it.

Re: Questions about LS1 brake upgrade

It probably doesn't even take that much. I bet 1" would actually do it, but I like to be 100% sure and safe with my brake lines to I'm not stressing them.

Right now, on my car, I have my rubber hoses zip tied to the outside of the metal brackets, and the hard line bent out just enough to hold it. That gives me enough reach on the rubber hoses to turn the wheel all the way from stop to stop and not pull or rub. that's why I said about 3" would cover it.

I just did the same conversion. Yes, I recommend the 3" longer brake hoses. I may have the box with the part number I got from carquest. The hoses were almost exactly 3" longer and had the correct ends. All I had to do was grind a small tab off the end that fit in the bracket and remove a metal bracket that was installed on the new/longer hoses. The parts guy just looked in his pictured brake hose book. The book showed the fitting sizes and thread pitch along with hose length. The hoses were very resonable priced. The ls1 brake hoses will not work and the lt1's are TOO short. You can bleed like normal with no problems.
