I am having my cage built by a guy that I know that does a lot of fab work. My question is how do yall paint them? Do you paint it all after its in the car or paint most of it out of the car then just touch it up?

So how did you protect from spraying all over the panels? Or did you removed them all? How hard is it to put them back in with the cage in?

 

I had them all out...anything else I masked off. Its a royal pita anyway you do it.....I have never found an easier way, other may know something I don't tho

 

So I guess my best bet then since I am not doing the fab work someone else is to leave all the plastics in and just tell him to leave me a little room to get them out so I can paint them when I get it home..

 

I'm gonna POR15 mine when I do it. Looks like a gloss black but hard as nails and won't chip or scratch. I plan on coating the pipes up to about 2 inches of the end then weld it in. Then I'll go back and paint the 2 inches on the end.

 

I painted all but the four inches at the welds or less, But we welded big pieces of the cage together painted it and then put it in the car to finsh connecting everything and then touched it up.. But then again I did have all my plastic panels out.. I didn't want to have any splatter ruin my panels..

 

I bent and fitted all my bars with all the interior in the car. then pulled it all out, welded in the cage. then painted the cage, after masking everything off. then re-installed the interior.

Only thing i took out of my car was the seats. I used news paper and masking tape throughout the whole car and painted the cage inside the car. It wasnt really all that bad. Just make sure you paint the top of the hoop first because it will be really close to the headliner. Other then that it was all done on the inside of the car, tossed the seats back in. And i was good to go
