Parts needed for LS1 brake swap

Went looking in a seach and did not find it.

If I go with new sloted rotors and hawk pads the only used LS1 parts I will need is the spindles and calipers right? Staying with the LT1 brake lines.

I would just buy a setup on ebay and get everything. There's no harm in having an extra set of rotors/pads. But yes, you're correct all you'll need is the spindles.

i read here the LS1 hubs are an upgrade from the LT1 hubs also,
but ask them if the guide pins are ok in the caliper brackets. 1 of mine were frozen and after 2 hours of pounding, penetrating oil, torching, even drilling holes in the back, we couldn't get it out. it was rusted all the way around and in. had to buy a new caliper bracket and two new guide pins.

why? the 96-02 hubs are identical.. and the earlier hubs actually had stronger bearings from what IU heard... the later years "upgrades" were for EPA standards with waste metals (I belive cadmium was the targeted metal that was removed, but I dont' recall exactly).

Regardless of which was slightly better in theory, I havn't seen/heard any issues with either bearing actually lasting longer... they usually last until you spin the car or curb it hard... then they squeek as they loosen up and need to be replaced.

I have yet to find an aftermarket hub of equal quality though. A racer I know found a cheap-o hub supplier but the hubs weren't nearly as durable as the GM stuff... although either hub will bite it if you go off track at 60+mph so he didn't care about long-term use.

Do I need to get new castle nuts and washers for the LS1 upgrade or are they universal for the LT1 LS1?

You'll be able to reuse your castle nuts because you're still using the same ball joint as before. And the hole in the steering knuckle is the same too. Depending on your mileage you might want to get new ball joints.

Thanks for the info, the plan is to get the parts, clean them up, rebuild the calipers, clean and paint everything and see what else I should replace while I am doing the swap.
