panhard bar bolt problem

i got a new tubular pandhard bar from paracing.com and i wa changing it along with my lcas a few days ago

and believe it or not, the bolts were not hard to get off on my 18 year old f-body

anyway, the bolt from the original panhard bar starts off as a 12 mm bolt but then widens to i guess 14 mm and it fits fine in the bushing sleeve of the stock pandhard bar, but only goes halway in the new bushing sleeve in the new panhard bar, i need a replacement set of bolts that have a constant diameter

i went everywhere (autozone, pep boys, home depot, hardware store and sears hardware) and no body has a strong enough bolt

the original bolt has 10.9 stamped in the head and is an m12 x 1.75 pitch bout 4 inches long

all the above places have 8.8 not 10.9 and i dont want to use that

Try an ACE hardware, if you have them. In my neck of the woods they carry 10.9 class metric hardware (which is comparable to grade 8 SAE).

If you have a Lowe's near you try them. The Lowe's in my area has Grade 10.9 metric hardware. If you can't find 10.9 metric just use 1/2 Grade 8 SAE. Any good hardware store should have Grade 8 bolts.

Don't be confused by the 8.8 grade. If I remember correctly, 8.8 is not equal or stronger than grade 8. I am looking this up but in the meantime, to anyone looking for grade 8, do not use 8.8 in its place. Like LPEdave said, 10.9 is the same as grade 8.
I thought this might be important as people have a tendency to think 8.8 is stronger than 8.

yea thats good to know, i know alot of poeple dont understand bolts, sizes pitches and strengths, i've already learned a bit about bolts which is why i didnt go for 8.8 bolts

i'll try ace hardware for the 10.9 bolts in m12 1.75 pitch
i know i could use grade 8 bolts but i'm not to sure what size to get to make sure they fit inside my panhard bar, too lazy to measure and all that good stuff

thanks alot guys, i'll let u know if i find them

If the metric bolts are 12MM, 1/2" X 20 SAE would be the perfect replacement.

Another vote for ACE they allways have those odd bolts I'm looking for, plus a lot of other odds and ends too. For the PHB you'd need a bolt w/ heavy sheer resistance, like what was said, grade 8. Bring the old one with you, so you know.....thread pitch, diameter......etc....saves headaches and multiple trips...

Ace around here carries 12.9 metric blue's... best metrics you can buy. They don't rust, either

Re: panhard bar bolt problem

i felt the car needed a panhard rod more than i needed to take the bolt with me so i simply memorized the dimesions of the bolt, like i said before, m12 x 1.75 pitch, 10.9 quality and its around 4 inches in length

i cant find an ace hardware around me, i called the guy from pa racaing where i got my stuff and he offers bolt kits for the lca's and panhard bar for 10 bucks,

i think i'm going to either buy the bolt kits through pa racing, or buy grade 8 bolts if i cant find an ace hardware
