Newb to suspension work
Newb to suspension work
All,
I am somewhat tech savy when it comes to working on my car but I am certainly still a novice. I am a complete newb to suspension work. Half the time, I'm not even sure where to jack my car up because I'm afraid of positioning to much wait on a single point of the suspension.
I've changed oil, alternators, fuel filters, rotors, pads, etc but never touch my suspension. I am looking to do an overhaul on a budget.
Cash in hand $500.
Vehicle:
1996 Z28 w/ 110K on the clock.
I have owned the car since the 49K mark. I am not if any work has ever been done to the suspension before that. The car currently rolls pretty hard in the turns and the nose of the car has some serious lift at WOT and I'm not putting down any special numbers (intake & exhaust). Therefore, I am assuming a few things are worn out.
Driving:
Used as a daily driver during the spring, summer, fall months. I've never been to the 1/4 track. I'm more concerned about having a decent ride capability that will stick it on semi windy roads yet still buck in a straight line.
I have read that the stock springs will outlast the car. Therefore, I was thinking I would reuse them.
I planned on purchasing the following items
(2) KYB-KG5562 Shock/Strut - Rear
(2) KYB-KG9310 Shock/Strut - Front
I was also thinking some sort of Pan Hard bar or Sway bar kit or both.
There have to be a few items I am missing so I thought I would come to the board and see what sort of input I could soak up. Bushings, control arms, etc. I am going into this with the impression that I will get flamed for not knowing much about suspensions or not using the search button. In all honesty, I have read through quite a few threads and done some searching and still don't really understand what I should be looking into replacing. I am willing to accept any knowledge that anyone is willing to shovel out.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Definitely do shocks first. IMO, get Bilsteins shocks for your budget. Check the condition of your sway-bar mount bushings and end links if there not in at least good condition, then replace them. The same goes for the PHB bushings and rear control arm bushings.
Check the classified sections for good deals on suspension parts (PHB, LRCA, Sway-bars, etc...)
