My Panhard rod fell out while driving!

So I'm driving in a school zone on Friday and I take a left turn. All of a sudden I hear something dragging under my car. So I pull over thinking that I'm dragging something that I ran over. I look under the car and my panhard rod is hanging down from the drivers side still attached to the passenger side! The bolt was completely gone. I put a new panhard rod from UMI about 2 years ago and I know that all the bolts were tight. Guess I should have bought the new bolts. At least the panhard rod is still good, only the bushing got a little scraped up. No one has the bolt, now I have to get the dealership to order one. Have you ever heard of this happening?

You should be able to go to a local hardware store and get one. It's just a nut and bolt. Pull the other one to get the right size.

That's what I was going to say. It will save you some money and time (waiting for the bolt to come in). Use some thread-locker this time. I've never heard of that happening though.

Make sure you use "Grade 8" fasteners and not the cheap hardware stock.

The pnahrd bar bolt is a tappered bolt, not something you will find at a hardware store and can only be purchased from GM. If you need to use a hardware store bolt a 1/2" will work but will be loose and may cause some noise.

I ended up buying those bolts directly from Spohn when I ordered the LCAs and PHR. I'm not sure how much the dealership cost is compared to that.

As a matter of fact, I just ordered these bolts from Pontiac on Saturday. They run about $1.50 each, and are 14mm to 12mm tapered grade 10.9 bolts.

I found a chevy dealership in Houston that had the bolt. I still can't believe that the bar fell while I was driving.
