The best way to do it is go to a salvage yard and just undo the brake line where it connects to the body, unplug the ABS harness and then remove the tie rod end and take the two ball joints loose. The whole LS1 assembly will fall out with all the parts you need. You need the spindles, rotors, calipers, caliper mounting brackets, and brake lines. I think thats all if i remember right.

Re: LS1 brake swap...just front????

Yes i did the fronts only. Most people only do the fronts because the rears really aren't much better than what you have. People lower their LS1's so i don't think it should be a problem on your car. Its not that big of project. It took me 4 hrs working by myself start to finish including a trip to the parts house.

Just go to ebay and check around there for a complete "kit". I've seen a few sell for $150 lately. So, you shouldn't spend more than $200 to get it shipped to your door.

What do you mean when you say with no light on the dash? Anyways, you won't need any programming when you do the LS1 swap. Just put it on the car and go.

Re: LS1 brake swap...just front????

sorry to clarify i meant.....i didn't want the abs light to stay on or somthing from not getting it programmed for the ls1's.....i wasn't aware that the sensors would be the same thus i thought it might trip the light on the dash

and again any year 98+ on camaro or ta will work right?

Re: LS1 brake swap...just front????

Speed sensors in the spindles are the same, i'm running front brakes off a 98 ss and haven't had any problems. You can knock them off in an hour or two if you know what you're doing and don't run into any problems. When i put mine on my lower ball joints on both sides needed to be changed, other than that it was really simple. You'll also need a brake bleeder tool if you don't have one, and it's a good idea to get new crush washers(you'll need 4).

one other thing you may need to get your car realigned after doing the swap, mine pulled slightly to the right after i did the swap.

I belive the crush washers that he's talking about are the copper washers you use where the brake line and caliper meet.

The ball joint will seem really sloppy and move easily if they're worn out.

Re: LS1 brake swap...just front????

mine had 70k and were shot, it's not really hard to replace them. I'd definetly recommend doing it while you're down there if there's any signs of wear. They're only like 25 bucks for a new set from autozone and they rent the tool for free. The problem with mine was the i couldn't tighten the castle nut back on without the ball joint spinning. Only takes about an extra 30 minutes to do, no big deal. Crush washers on the copper washers that go on the line were it connects to the caliper, definetly want to replace these or your breaks will leak.
