The directions say that you MUST use new brake pads when installing new rotors...


why????????



my stock pads have more than half life yet... im not getting rid of them

i think this is just a ploy to get you to buy more of THEIR product... of course they recommend their own.


do i really HAVE to change my pads???

what usually happens, especially with semi-metallic pads, is the pads form groves in the rotors and thus, when set, the pads work best with their matched rotors and if installed on a different set of rotors, would increase wear, put your finger on the original rotor, and if its grooved, go get a set of pads from any autoparts store, if their perfectly smooth (both viually and physically) then go ahead and re-use them

of course if you dont want your pads to eat up these rotors go with NAO (non asbestos organics, not usually available for front brakes) or ceramic pads (usually more expensive, around 45-50 bucks)

 

If you going to the trouble to change rotors, why not change pads. But if your too cheap to change the pads I would at least take a belt sander of something simular to the pads to remove the glazed surafce from the pad so the rotor can have a fresh surface to bed to.
