Re: i hear squealing

if you turn your wheel all the way to either direction it will squeel. I work at enterprise rent a car and almost all the vehicles do it if you turn the wheel all the way to the left or right.

Re: i hear squealing

Yeah you need to be more specific...most of use know the sound a PS system makes when it turned to the extremes as a opposed to an actual rubbing sound...it is hard for me to start guessing when I don't know what kind of squek you're talking about...

Re: i hear squealing

Well if your car's a 71 I dunno, but if it's a 4th gen I have a good idea. It's a problem with the 10-bolt(7.5") rear with disc brakes. When parts in the diff start wearing the side gears are free to move out towards the wheels. The axle shafts are held in by c-clips that ride against the inside of the side gears. So basically the distance between the c-clip surface to the outside end of the tube gets smaller as it wears down. Once it gets bad enough the axle can move out enough to where the rotor contacts the caliper bracket. When you turn the road pushes the whole axle shaft into the bracket making metal on metal squeeling noises. The axle is free to move in and out as you turn right then left, mine developed enough play to drop the c-clip into the spider gears, you don't want that trust me. GM has a TSB on this, their fix is to shim the caliper bracket out so the rotor can't reach it, which works for slight wear, but eventually the wear gets bad enough to allow the axle to move 1/2" or so. If it's just a little movement I'd shim out the bracket and when it happens again replace the diff.
