How do I install grease fittings on a 97 TA?
How do I install grease fittings on a 97 TA?
I'm replacing only the boots on the tie rod ends because they are ripped, so I'll need to get grease in there. Do I just drill a hole and screw the fittings in?
Also, I have a cheap $1 tube of Supertech lithium grease from walmart. Does it matter much what grease I use?

personally, if you are gonna go through the trouble of seperating the tie rod end from the spindle and then you plan on drilling a hole in the bottom while its still on the car, then just get a new tie rod end\
if you plan on taking the tie rod off to drill the hole then your gonna need an alignment anyway and might as well put a new one on
if you really dont want to get an alignment, you can put a chalk mark on the inner tie rod end so you can get the new tie rod as close as possible and then use the string method to fine tune the toe

The stock F/E parts are grease less and don't need greased. I wouldn't recomend trying to install zerk fittings to grease them. If they have slop in them, replace them.

So should I just install the new boot over it then? I already bought them.

so I'd like to try and correct it without paying for an alignment.

what he meant by greaseless is that they are greased for their lifespan, no additional grease needed
the string method is where you tie a string to some suspension component in the rear of the car close to the ground, doesnt matter which, and you bring the string around keeping it taut and close to the ground
when the string touches the rear tire in two places you can safely assume the string is running parallel to the tire
draw that string all the way to the front tire, if the toe is off it will only touch the front tire at one point, you then lengthen or shorten the tie rod end until both front and rear tires touch the string at two points each
not exactly easy but it works
