High Mileage Shocks and Struts
High Mileage Shocks and Struts
It's time for me to replace the struts and shocks on my 83 Z/28. I ordered the car from the factory and the car presently has 230,000 miles and the shocks are original! It's only been recently that I have noticed a slight front end bounce when going over dips and bumps.
Has anyone else got this kind of mileage on their struts and shocks?

I also have an 83 camaro, it has the 305 in it. I had to change springs after 95,xxx miles because they straight up broke into pieces and the shocks wouldnt raise anymore. I put Eibach 1" lowering springs on, KYB adjustable shocks in the front and KYB gas-a-just shocks in the back
i don think your guys shocks are still good. If you would throw on some new ones i know you would feel the difference. I pulled mine out at around 100k out of a 95 z 2 years ago and holy s**t what a difference it made. Some of that is because im running koni sa's but on the stock springs.
It's always sticky to tell someone they might be missing the boat. But stock shocks aren't meant to live forever, and often were pretty bad from the start. Shocks are one of those thing a lot of folks never notice, including (and sadly inspection mechanics). Ever see a car driving down the road and a wheel just bouncing along like a basketball? How about a car or truck just kind of bobbing along? Those are REALLY bad shocks, and I'm sure the driver has no clue anything is wrong, but it clearly is.
Frankly, if you have over 100k on your stock shocks, it's time for a change, even if you opt for an inexpensive replacement (and they aren't all the same). It's like something you haven't tried but when you do you realize what you were missing.......
