Help with shock selection. (I searched)
Trying to replace my original shocks on my car with something that can suit my needs. I am putting UMI tubular k member and A arms in and figured now would be the right time.
I am wanting to know if double adjustable is going to be the way to go for my weekend street/strip car. I would be using a 300 spring with them as recommended by Herron performance. He recommended QA1's or strange double adjustable shocks.
I value his opinion, but wanted to hear more about these and if they will be good for my setup. (383 LE3)
Is it going to ride like crap?
Also I know the QA1 shocks are rebuildable, but what about the strange set?

Good luck getting an answer, I guess everyone on here is DONE with shocks. I
would recommend the revalved Bilsteins, either by Sam or SLP. Koni seems to
be the popular choice, and with the money you have already spent is probably
along the right lines for what your going for.

I don't know much about the Strange setup, but the QA1s are geared toward straight line performance and weight transfer. They won't ride worse than your stock shocks, but they aren't going to be corner carvers either.
The Bilstien HD setup is a good shock with the stock springs, but i've read that they changed their valving to be more like the SLP revalve setup. This has mixed reviews.
The Koni SA setup seems to get the best ratings overall, but really isn't a drag shock.
I did the Bilstein setup a couple of years ago, but wish I had spent the extra money on the Koni SA shocks for at least my front shocks.

if you want handling get koni's. That is what they are best for. They will not act as a dual purpose shock (autocross/drag) as they will suck for drag racing.
Hal's are kind of the opposite than koni's. But they are a little better for handling than koni's are for drag. the qa1's my buddy has make his car handle pretty well but he also has springs, sway bars, etc.
Bilstein's are okay. They are more of a all around shock than drag or autocrossing shock. THe re valved ones from strano are nice, wouldnt buy them otherwise.
Based off what ive read here and just from the fact that you have a le3 383 i would go hal. Koni if you want it to really handle.

I am not really worried about handling, as I am mostly worried about straight line performance. I have Houston raceway 20m from my house, and will mostly be bruising the streets around me on the weekend. I really dont try to take turns very fast around town, or autocross, so I am leaning toward a double adjustable.
Are the Hal shocks like the QA1's?

How much are you looking to spend?
You can get some summit drag shocks for the rear for 30/piece, set them to the firmest setting (70/30), and then get a set of either koni, or lakewood front shocks that are 90/10
