The "ABS INOP" and "ASR off" lights stay on and no matter what i seem to do, i can't fix it. Can someone give some insight on how these to lights are related, and/or some suggestions on how to correct the problem.

have you tried just clearing the computer? pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery? mine would turn on occasionally...all i had to do was clear the codes....and they would go away

try that

 

clean the wheel speed sensors and make sure the 3rd brake light is working

 

Check your fuse!
It happened to me too and it turned out to be a fuse.
Don't remember exactly which one, but is is in the driver side fuse panel.

Yeah i already tried disconnecting the battery overnight. I checked all related fuses that i could find either in the manual or on the fuse panel, and they were all good... i will check again anyways. About the wheel speed sensor, where is that exactly. I hate to take it in to the shop and waste money for just a small problem, i just cant figure it out.

Make sure this ground is clean from corrosion and tight.

 

Also be sure to check the one on the passenger side fender, just behind the big red plastic postive terminal block...lots of the ABS stuff goes there, just had that problem with my car.

 

Pull the light bulb, you won't have to worry about seeing that ABS INOP light again. But seriously, it happened to me, just the ABS INOP light. There was a loose connection going to my rear lights, pushed the connector together and wrapped in elec. tape and problem solved.

 

Ditto on cleaning the ground post by the red postivie cap (passenger side). Just fixed this issue with my buddy's '95. The stock ground post rests on a painted surface and relies on only the threads for a good ground connection!

 

I agree with Trey. My brakes started to grind in the rear and it made alot of metal particles. These attached themselves to the magnetic part of the speed sensor in that wheel. After I cleaned it and replaced my brakes, I had no problem.

 

what does the wheel speed sensor look like and where is it located?

it's a disk that is maybe 5" or so in diameter. It's a toothed wheel that is located at every wheel. Does that help?

When you're checking the wheel sensors, be sure to unplug, clean, and reseat the connectors as well.

 

IF your abs inop light is coming on when you start up immediatly, its likely not a dirty WSS. Usually if its the WSS it won't throw the code until your rolling, even just a little bit.
