hard top to t-top's

I am not sure if this has been discussed before, but, there is this person that has a all GM parts t-top kit, from donar car on Ebay. Says its fairly easy to convert hard top to t-top's. has anyone ever done this? I know it is easier and better to just get something with t-tops, but, I am seeing some damn good deals on cars with hard tops, like a 5k mile 97 Z for 14k

Re: hard top to t-top's

please don't chop a hard top!! that's is in my opinion CRAZY, if you want a t-top f-body just buy one. hardtops are already hard to find as it is, not to mention there are more t-top rides then anything out there. just my $0.02

Re: hard top to t-top's

I have looked in the CAMARO WHITE BOOK......

for example: in 1997 they sold 26125 T-Top Camaro's (RPO CC1), the complete production was 60202 Camaro's (inc. convertibles)

I think the fixed roof is not a rare equipment...... (I own one )

If you use the search function you will find a lot of threads discussed this!

and check this out please:

I plan this conversion too

No, I dont WANT to do this, but, WTF, I cant find what I want at a price I want, so, if I have to make the f888n thing the way I want to then I guess thats the route I need to go. Some poeple like to settle for second best, me, I just want what I like.

Re: hard top to t-top's

One poster claims to be able to do it in an afternoon. I'm sure if you are serious about this you will find the thread.

About the rarity of the hardtop; I think you can find a lot of 6 cylinder Camaros without T-tops but I rarely see a Z without one. I had a 95 Z28 coupe and rarely thought about it not having the tops because I have only taken them off my other cars a couple of times.

Re: hard top to t-top's

It took me the better part of 3 afternoons...taking my time with lots of 10 min breaks. I was VERY cautious, and made many cuts very generous. I'm not done with the final adjustments yet, but everything is in, and secure......

Re: hard top to t-top's

Rarity is a non-issue. These are not LT4 cars or something.....just Firebird's and Camaros.

Re: hard top to t-top's

Final adjustments???? Damn, I thought it was litterally like taking the top off a can of coffee and then putting the lid back on!? I was assuming you just dropthe headliner, drill out 4-6 spotwelds, lift off top, insert factory T-Top braces, replace molding and go.

Damn birdman, wish you wernt, or I was, in Cali to see it........... oh well

Re: hard top to t-top's

i did it in less than 7 hours and could do it again in probaly less than 4 hours. its not hard at all just do some research and when you cut always leave a little extra and trim as needed. Make sure you have a good drill bit to drill out spot welds and just take your time. be verry careful when cutting through the drain vally in the roof and make sure its straight . once i cut the roof panel off i just used some door molding to slip over it so it looks nice and factory. but yea man its easy to do and shouldnt take nomore than 8 hours tops your first time. as long as you have all of the tools needed. pm me if you have any questions
