Question Grinding Noise from Front Wheel when turning sharply left

Hi,

About a couple weeks ago I noticed that my 2001 Z28 started to making a grinding noise whenever I backed out of my driveway. It sounds like the noise you would get if you tossed a beer cap into a running garbage disposal. I've tested it in parking lot and noise is prevalent with the wheel turned all of the way counter-clockwise (to the left). If just turn 3/4 or less to the left, there's no noise. I don't hear it at all turning right.

Note: 1 month ago I had the shocks and struts replaced. The shop had a hard time with the driver side front strut. They had to tear out the left front mount and replace it. They also replaced the front sway bar end links (not sure what those are).

The noise sounds like it's coming from the front left tire when I'm driving the car. Someone told me it's a ball joint. Most of the internet research has pointed to wheel bearings. My question, which one is more likely, how hard are they to fix, and if they're beyond my limited knowledge/ability, how much am I looking to spend to replace? Also, is there any chance the shop caused this when they replaced the strut and mount?

Thanks.

My 1 st guess would be left front strut mount,
2 nd guess- RIGHT front wheel bearing, not hard to change, OE bearing list about 300. if from local discount
parts house 150.
my $.02 Johnny

Dropped the car off at a shop this morning. They just called an said I needed new front and rear brakes. I've never heard of brake pads causing this kinda of noise. Usually that's a squealing noise when you get down to the wear indicator. They also gave me a laundry list of BS services: coolant flush, fuel injector cleaning, etc $1200 worth of crap. No thanks, I think I'm going to have to try somewhere else.

I let the first shop do I what I wanted to begin with, oil change and alignment, and then took it to another shop. The other shop said there was nothing wrong with the brakes (no surprise). Also, the noise went away after the alignment. However, the car still pulls to the right, so now I have to go back again. What a pain. This will probably be my last visit to the first shop.

is it a performance shop? try and find out where the local racers get their alignments and go there. or take it by an F-body specialist in your area.

you should try changing your oil too, they all use the cheapest bulk oil
