Which front brake kit is better?

The Strange (P/N B4180WC) or the C5 front brake conversion (P/N BCK001)?

Descriptions of both can be seen here:

Which kit is better for braking, lighter weight, and looks? Let me know which you think is all around better and why.

Thanks,

Brandon

well it depends on what you are using the car for. the strange brakes will be lighter but they are meant for drag racing only really. the c5 brakes will destroy them on the street for ability to cool and repeated stopping power. they are much larger rotor, with a way bigger caliper and pad surface. both look good, but do you want better brakes or lighter weight?

get the C5 brakes with Bob Bishop brackets if you can find some. That's the hot ticket to a good brake system without breaking the bank.

The car is a street/strip car. So looking for good breaking but light weight as well. How is the braking quality of the strange...compared to say stock front brakes on a 95 trans-am? Thanks for the help.

They are known as J&M brackets now. We purchased the design a while back and can be ordered from us or one of our dealers.

Search for Ed miller.
He does inexpensive brackets and C5 conversion kits.
That's The best price on the best bang for the buck.
Rotors are about $30 each from any parts counter and calipers are about $150 new from GM or any parts store.(caliper carriers/mount brackets were cheap last time I checked and sometimes come w calipers depending on how they are ordered) $25 per corner for SS lines if you want to add them and what? $15 for hardware. pads could run $30 - $250 but for drag racing should be fairly cheap.

Just get regular unslotted or undrilled rotors, they are the cheapest part of the conversion and cheaper to replace then pads.

do NOT get the strange brakes for any car that will see time on the street. They are a thin solid rotor which is fine for stopping at the end of the track every hour or so, but will fail very quickly under street driving especially with a 3200+# car.

The C5 is the cheapest stock upgrade you can get. If you want to drop $$$ on a "big-boy" setup, then head for the Wilwood 6-piston, or a Baer setup.
