E-brake scrubbing rims

Got a set of Centerline Warriors on the car and the driver side E-brake end is really in contact with the rim.

the hard metal part from the cable that attaches to the brake, it is a j-shape thing, has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do to fix.
The metal is not that thick so cutting alot of it worries me due to it becoming weak and then possibly breaking off.

I would just remove the whole E-brake set up but with a manual car a little unsure about that practice.
