E-brake Adjustment Screw Frozen

I have a 95 Z (disc brakes all around), and I just replaced the brakes. FYI, all of this is with the ebrake completwly off. But the e-brake is holding too strong on the driver side. I tried to move the adjustment screw, but it's frozen. Using an allen wrench feels like I'm going to snap the wrench, or worse, the screw. Also, there's about 1/4" gap between the screw and the metal piece it looks like it's supposed to touch. Do I just need to grow a pair and keep trying to move the screw? And is the spacing I mentioned correct? Thanks.
