Do i need shocks when i lower it?
Do i need shocks when i lower it?
I plan on lowering my z28 1.5 inches, but a buddy of mine who lowered his brand new car told me his car took bumps really hard after he lowered his, and thats with brand new shocks. So does that mean that if i were to lower my car that new aftermarket shocks would solve the problem of hitting bumps so hard. And his so what kind would you recommend?
Re: Do i need shocks when i lower it?
YES! Shocks are very important when lowering a car. Shocks are spring dampers. Your buddy's car doesn't ride well because even though his shocks are new, they are not designed (valved, etc.) to handle higher spring rates and shorter distances to work.
Shocks are the most important suspension piece and shouldn't be skimped on. Koni SA shocks are one of the best ways to go. If they are out of your range, Sam Strano can re-valve Bilstein HDs to meet your needs.

Off the topic, but ZaneO, sweet *** car man. Tell me more about what you have done to it and what mods you enjoy the most. I have alot of the same mods as you can see in the sig, and I have considered the shift kit like you have also. How do you like it? How many washers did you put in it? How was the install?

Re: Do i need shocks when i lower it?
You really should do shocks with the springs for the reasons that ZaneO already mentioned. The stock shocks will probably blow since they won't be able to handle the increased spring rate and then you'll end up getting aftermarket ones anyway. Go with the best that your budget allows.

Thanks for the compliment. I think every mod has helped except for the pulleys.
I like the Trans Go...it just has one shim, but still shifts firmly...tranny guy installed it during the rebuild.
