so theres a number of aftermarket systems, and for us LT1 guys we can upgrade to the LS1 fbody brakes, or there is also the C5/Z06 brakes (which i will finish on my car before i die...as soon as i get money)


has anyone looked into a conversion for the CTS-V brakes? i dont know the exact specs on the rotor size and caliper style and all, but they are freakin huge. if they can stop that big *** car good then i want them! lol. just curious. i dk if bob bishop still hangs around here if anyone knew anything he might. im already going down the road with the z06 swap but money is always so damn tight ive have the adapter brackets forever it seems

 

I thought they were the same as the Z06 ones?
Seems like it might be worth looking into, cost being one of the larger concerns.

Its not that big and heavy of a car though either, 3500lbs....

4 piston brembos with 14 inch rotors stop the car in 122 feet i'd like to get some of that. i think the Z06 is like 2 piston calipers with 12.x inch rotors? i forget i dont have all the parts yet

edit- the corvette is supposed to stop 60-0 in 125 feet. i know its only like 3 feet, but the corvette weighs a lot less, the V is closer to an fbody weight. hmmmm

 

My local dealer siad the best price he could do was 1800 CDN for the calapers and rotors, no pads.

where as the Z06 is 900 CDN.

I suspect you're comparing apples to oranges. The tires are going to make a huge difference here, and my guess is the Cadillac was on some pretty wide sticky tires. Unless you have those on your car, you're not going to get much better stopping distance out of those brakes than you get with your stock brakes. Now if you're racing, that's a different story - I bet these don't fade easily...

well duh tires are a huge factor in almost everything. but i dont think the tires on the V i drove were much bigger then mine pretty sure it was 245s. im probably going with the most rubber i can stuff on there without rubbing, having to roll the fender, or pound in the wheel well course thats more rotating mass for the caliper to have to grab and as it is with the stock setup its crap anyway.

plus this was just a "curiosity" thread to see if anyone knew anything. i highly doubt the adapter bracket intended for Z06 brakes would somehow also match up with the brembos, and im not throwing money away to change my plans midway through. if it was reasonable to do for not much more money i might change, but brembo and caddy arent cheap brands... to go through either company

 

245/45 18's, thats what comes on the CTS-V. They are also EMT, run flat tires, which are supposed to not be as sticky and stuff as non run flat tires.

wish i knew the part numbers maybe ill ask next time im at the caddy dealer. be nice to have GM part numbers cuz i have ways of getting OEM parts cheaper if need be....man that be a sweet deal getting Brembo brakes for cheap, if there was actually a bracket to adapt them

I got these prices from gmpartsdirect.com this morning. I know a few guys running these on their Chevelles with C5 rotors, they supposedly bolt up the same as C5 calipers so they should work with the C5 adapter brackets.

I will be upgrading my brakes this winter and I am going to try the Brembos.

The CTS-V rotors are 14", so I doubt they'll work with C5 adaptor brackets as the calipers won't be offset enough.

Also, the CTS-V rotors are 6 lug, not 5, so those won't work either.

 

I did not plan on using the CVT-S rotors, just the calipers. From what I've heard the bolt up just the same as the C5's

 

I checked on the offset issue and it looks like custom rotors would be required after all due to the offset.
