C5 or new camaro brakes on my 96?
hey guys, im looking to upgrade my pewny little (front)brakes on my 96 SS. im thinking about putting on 97 or newer camaro or corvette brakes. how much of a pain will this be?
ive been looking at the baer track set up and ive read that it is based off of the 13" corvette brakes.
what should i do??? thanks for any help....

97 and 96 Camaros had the same brakes (98 to 02 had the LS1 caliper and 12" rotors).
I'm going with C5 brakes myself for a few reasons:
1) I have 17" rims and no intention of going back to 16's
2) I have AAA and a C4 spare I may even carry in the trunk for road trips.
3) LT1 brakes suck, so I'm upgrading anyway.
So much for the negatives, here's the positives
...
4) C5 calipers are pressure cast, not gravity cast like LS1 versions (same producer, but the aluminum is stiffer in C5)
5) C5 calipers have stiffening ribs that come accross the bridge to help prevent caliper spread.
6) C5 calipers have stainless steel pistons and titianium pad shields available... LS1 pistons are different sizes so you're stuck with aluminum pistons.
7) C5 rotors are cheaper than the smaller LS1 rotors.
8) C5 rotors have directional veins for better heat dissipation.
9) C5 rotors are 1" larger for more brake-torque and pad sweep area.
10) C5 lines, pads, rotors are just as available (maybe more so) than LS1 versions.
11) bling bling baby... dem's some big @ss brakes!

Get 17"+ rims to start. If you have some already then you're set. Other than that just cut the mounting points for the stock calipers off and all the C5 stuff bolts right up. I use stock C5 brake hoses, not the stainless steel lines that you could get if you wanted to use those.
I was deciding between the two also. If you do the LS1 conversion you can get a complete setup off ebay for like $200-250 including the spindles. I didn't want to swap my spindles and get it realigned so I just did Bob Bishops C5 conversion. Let me tell you I didn't fully season my new rotors yet and I can tell the difference already. I bought the two piece Baer Eradispeed rotors so I spent some extra money but you can do it for around $600-700($250 brackets-$400 -500 for everything else) I also have 18" rims so I wanted a bigger rotor. I do have some pics if you would like to see them. The C5 conversion is rather easy, maybe 2 hours total. Hope this helps you out. Just email me if you have any questions.Good luck....John

Your post is VERY misleading! There's brackets that you have to put in place of the mounting ears that are to be removed. You can't just bolt the calipers on after the ears are chopped off.
