C5 brake upgrade?

I have a '94 Z28 that needs new front rotors. I was condisering the LS1 upgrade. Then I got looking into the C5 upgrade. To my understanding, these rotors are 13in. instead of the LS1's 12in. It seems that there is a bracket thats needed to space the caliper far enough away from the rotor. Would there be anything else thats needed thats special/specific about this? Also, will a C5 13in. rotor set up even work with 16in. wheels? Thanks!

I know you have to do a little cutting on the spindle. The LT1's require a bit more than the newer ones. The bracket is about 200 bucks at UMI I think. I saw a guide for this a while back but I cant find the link. ....If anyone else has it..?

Yes you need a bracket. Do a search in this section... there are tons of topics covering what other parts are needed (with part numbers)... and no, you cant use 16 inch wheels.

i'm pretty sure you can go with 17's though. I remember seeing a picture of a car with the conversion on an SS with the factory 17's

I would hope so considering C-5's have 17inch wheels on the front.

Re: C5 brake upgrade?

not bashing UMI or anything (I've not seen their bracket), but look around for a good bracket. I know there are some "cheap" ones on ebay. The best is the old "Bob Bishop" design that one of the sponsors sell, they are doing another batch right now I think. I've owned the LG bracket (no cutting required on the LS1 knuckle, but doesn't work with the LT1 style), and it was fine for the light track use that I do. I currently have the "Bishop" brackets on my '95, and I can say the quality is top notch..

I'd agree with East on that one. I think umi is great, but for breaking componets, always buy the best in quality. just seems like a no-brainer to me, upgrading something to stop you from crashing at 145mph... DONT BUY CHEAP PARTS lol

I have a set from Bob's 1st batch of aluminum brackets. They are as good as everyone claims. Here's a link to the latest iteration of his brackets. http://www.speedspecialty.com/store/...=c5fbodybrakes
