Brakes Squeeking....while driving, not when i apply the brakes.... help!
hey guys ever since i put on my new MB Drifters and painted my calipers i have been getting this really annoying squeek from apparently all 4 wheels.....but the thing is when i apply the brakes it stops...... what can i do to fix this?
Re: Brakes Squeeking....while driving, not when i apply the brakes.... help!
Take the pads out and coat the back side of them with anti-seize where they touch the calipers. Also put anti-seize on the sliders while you have them out.

Also check to make sure that your calipers are centered over your rotors...If not they will make contact while rolling and it will still stop when the brakes are applied...I had to shim mine out a hair with washers when I installed my Strange rear...Sounds like a similar noise...

wait lol ima lil confused....shim wat??? i am sorta new at it so be very specific lol....yea that sounds like wat it is....cuz everytime i apply the brakes it stops.....it never use to do it before until i put new rims and tires on and painted the calipers.....i painted them on the car and it wasn't the cleanest job....but im pretty sure i didn't move the caliper much....u shimmed the caliper?
Re: Brakes Squeeking....while driving, not when i apply the brakes.... help!
Yes...My Strange rear has caliper backing plates on the rear...When we mounted my stock calipers they were not exactly centered over the rotor and the outboard side of the caliper was rubbing on the outside of the rotor...When the brakes were applied the pads were pushed in by the caliper and the noise stopped...I had to put about a 1/32-1/16" washer between the caliper and the mount to move the caliper outward a bit which centered it over the rotor...no more noise...I know you didn't change rears, but sometimes the aftermarket is not as exact as the OEM stuff...
...and I could see the marks being left on the rotor and see the contact while turning the wheels while on a lift...just something to look at...

It won't matter if you're turning...I meant spinning the wheel slowly while its on a jack or lift...Just check real carefully that the rotor is not contacting the caliper....

my fronts do it. i took the pads out and saw that the sides are grinding into the caliper. seems to be the wrong pads (well correct pads, poor fitment...stupid autozone).
Re: Brakes Squeeking....while driving, not when i apply the brakes.... help!
PROBLEM FIXED!!!
i fixed it by sanding down and removing the rust on the edges of the rotor inner and outer...... then wipped it clean and applied brake lubricant to all the edges.....i believe it was just rust build up on the inner lip in the middle of the rotor that was rubbing agianst the inner pad.....a lil rust removial and a lil brake lube does the trick.....i recommend doing this to all 4 brakes if u have the wheels off..... just to keep them in good shape overtime...... thats wat im gonna do
