Brakes squeaking...

I just noticed last night that my brakes were squeaking a little bit. I started noticing it after a couple hard stops. I was out tonight and I really only noticed again after a couple of hard stops. It seems like it only does it if the brakes are heated up a bit. The other thing is I was only noticing it when I was lightly on the brakes, it's like a little squeal. Other than this the brakes feel completely normal, there has been no reduction in feel or stopping power. Do you guys think that maybe the rotors got cut into a little from the hard stops and the sound is from the pads just brushing against them? Like I said they feel no different or anything and it seems to only happen when they get heated up. I don't think it's really anything to worry about but I'd like some other people's opinions...Thanks alot.

The car is a '97 Z/28 w/ ~23k miles on it.

Re: Brakes squeaking...

there could be many reasons.. you can try putting some antisqueel stuff on the back of your pads to help reduce it.. you can check your antisqueel springs/clips..

Also, most pads usually have this little metal thing on one of the pads. When the pads run thin enough, this metal stick will hit the rotor and make noise.

or sometimes, its impossible to find out what exactly is causing it.

Re: Brakes squeaking...

I have had this problem for about 2 weeks now. It started getting louder real fast.I changed the pads, resurfaced my rotors and relubricaated the calipers. It has already been in the shop twice because of this and I just drove it home today and the freaking noice is still there!!! It's ot as loud, but we'll see after time.

My mechanic said the calipers were at a slanted angle and I should buy some new ones. I don't know if this is of any help, but get them inspected for free and see what they can come up with.
