Brakes: Springs and Shims?

I have the Bob Bishop C5 conversion brackets, and will be getting all the parts for the install soon. The required parts list Bob linked to says something about required Anti-Rattle Springs and Pad Abutment Shims (come with the package when you order Z06 pads). I have done quite a few brake jobs before and never used Springs and Shims that I know of. WTF are they? The parts list claims they are "NECESSARY". Are they a part of the pad or are they separate pieces?

Sorry if this is a dumb question

Thanks for the help guys

i also never used springs or shims but im guessing maybe the caliper or brake pad design is a little bit different and may require springs.maybe a tech guy at a chevy dealership could tell ya.
