Brake Upgrade? Is the LS1 REAR brake upgrade worth it??

I'm at a point where I can finally buy some parts to upgrade the brakes on my 1995 Z28. For the front I'm either going to do the LS1 upgrade or a C5 conversion.

My question concerns the rear brakes. Has anyone done the rear LS1 brake upgrade and if so, is it worth it? I've got to replace the rear wheel bearings so I'm going to have the rear torn apart anyway.....

Thoughts?

Most people say it is not worth it and just to stick with doing the LS1 Front upgrade, but a couple have reported a noticable difference by doing the LS1 Rear upgrade.

I would say its not worth it, but i dont have experience with the LS1 rear brakes. Thinking about it though, the rear brakes provide much less braking power than the fronts do, plus, the LS1 rears are not much better, if at all than LT1 rears, the only advantage is different E-Brake design.

Re: Brake Upgrade? Is the LS1 REAR brake upgrade worth it??

I have a 95 Z28 and am waiting on delivery of a Srtange 12 bolt rearend. I'm converting to LS1 rear brakes. I purchased the complete setup for ~$150 dollars. I'll be using C5 rear calipers and pads with the LS1 rear rotors. When I converted to C5 front brakes, I purchased a complete take-off C5 brake system for $230. The C5 brake parts were used, but in near new condition. The rear brake parts have been stored in my garage for over a year. The C5 rear calipers will bolt in place of the LS1 rear calipers, but the C5 rear rotor has a different offset than the LS1 rotor. I prefer the parking brake design of the LS1 setup and am hoping I'll get longer pad life as well.

I've done it on my 94 when I blew up my old one. I have not had any problems with it. Going on three years with a 2000 SS rearend, just make sure and purchase the appropriate year brake cables.

I agree. I have never used both on the same car so I would say that it isn't worth it also.

The only real advantage is a better parking brake and the looks of the bigger rotors.

I dont want to thread jack, but I have rear drum on my 91 Z28. Im guessing the LS1 rear upgrade would be real good on mine. Does anyone know where I can get a parts list?
