Body mount Torque arms?

I was looking at Thunder Racing's selection of TA's. That have ALOT of them. I'm intrigued by the ones that remove the mount from the transmission. Do they bolt in place of the stiffener that connects the trans tunnel sides? I removed that about three years ago when I put longtubes and a 3" Y-pipe on. What are the main benefits of that besides not breaking tail shafts on the trans?

Re: Body mount Torque arms?

some, not all of the relocated tq arms mount too the tunnel brace mounts
the idea of moving the mount other then the stress issue on the trans is too change the leverage point at which the arm pushes the rear axle into the ground

search google for torque arm suspension and read up on some of the theories as too what kind of torque arms work for what applications

theres alot of different ideas about what does what for what situation
etc.
like longer torque arms are better for road racing becaue of braking and shorter, without being too short are better for drag racing because of the shorter load transfer too dig the rear axle into the ground

then there are TQ arms that have a good combo for both types of situations like the GW trac link

a decoupled torque arm (free of attachment at the front) is suppose too be best for drag racing, it is choice style among stock eliminator racers

Priced out the decoupled tq.arm, and it runs about $750 ,but its one of the best ones...Or something like the Madman arm', which is around $500, I think and its double adjustable..

Re: Body mount Torque arms?

I've got a Madman on my car. The crossmember mounts where the old g-load brace went. Instead of bolting it in, I welded mine in place and also welded the ends to my SFC (which are in turn, welded to the body). It's also one less thing I have to take off when I drop the drivetrain too.

Ive got the Sphon adjustable unit that mounts to the old crossmember location. It is a very nice piece. You can get it with built in driveshaft loops as well.

i went from a tranny mount to a body mount and the road vibration is much much worse.

I also have a Spohn cross member mounted TA with the poly bushing and 2 loops. Its a very good piece and I don't notice any more road noise than before. The spherical rod end type will transmit more noise. Whatever TA you decide on get one that takes the mount off of the tailshaft. I learned the hard way what lots of rwtq does to an 8 year old tailshaft. Also, if your car is not lowered get front and rear loops. The rear of the driveshaft takes out lots of stuff when it lets go.....
