bmr k-member
bmr k-member
i just installed a bmr k-member in my 94Z28 and found that the steering linkage just seems a few inches short from seating fully on steering rack. has anyone seen this issue, and what did you do....thanks
Re: bmr k-member
The steering linkage is designed to expand and contract (the rod slides inside the mating piece). It's common for them to freeze up. Spray some penitrating oil on it and tap it with a hammer.
bmr k-member
i just installed a bmr k-member in my 94 Z28. during the installation i also installed jet hot long tube headers with y-pipe. the header on the driver's side seems to sit a little high and the y-pipe is not clearing the trans cross member brace. has any one seen this problem and what did you do. by the way jet hot is suppose to get back to me on monday. i called and informed them of my problem late yesterday. the pipe does not seem bent. i'm wondering if the k-member needs large spacers between the body and k-member to lower the drivetrain.

Re: bmr k-member
was the y-pipe coated that you had modified to clear the trans cross member? how did they modify it? it looks like they have to bend it right at the flange area. the y-pipe comes with a flat spot that is suppose to clear the trans cross member on the driver's side but the header sits to high toward the floor board but not contacting the floor board that the y-pipe cannot even be bolted up to the header with the trans cross member connected. this is the same problem you had right?

I have the BMR K-member w/ low-mount steering rack brackets (to fit Canton pan) and mine was nowhere close to fitting, so I had a local fabrication shop make me a super-thick rag-joint eliminator (1.25" thick aluminum spacer) which lets it fit perfectly.
Oh, and as far as the crossmember goes, I had to cut the crossmember to get my y-pipe to fit. This was before I got the BMR K-member, you shouldn't need any spacers. In my experience, header manufacturers don't do a very good job of making sure the tubes are exactly the same on each set, so people end up with different clearance issues.
Re: bmr k-member
thanks for all the input guys
this website is awsome!!! i did a search on jet hot long tube headers on LT1's to find the drivers header collector flange either contacts the floor board or comes very close on most installs that were posted on this site. there were different methods that were taken to make the y-pipe work due to the clearance issues at the trans crossmember and driver's side header collector flange. methods like having custom y-pipes made to changing the orientation on the collector flange so that the flat side of the flange is at the top. not sure which method i will go with, but on monday i plan on taking the car down to a muffler shop with the hooker y-pipe to see if they can modify the y-pipe vs. purchasing a custom y-pipe. if i have to purchase a custom y-pipe, i will send the hooker y-pipe back to jet hot.
