Re: bilstein shocks and springs

I have Bilstien shocks w/ Eiback springs. I installed like 4 susp mods at once. SO All I can really say about Eibach is they are a good mix of stiff and still have the ability to reduce bumps. Nice shox and worth the $$$.

Nothing on the springs tho. With that name I wouldn't expect negitive.

ok so is the price right then?

Anothe question is how hard is it to install? I know the back is realy easy just lift body up and axle will drop out-already dont it before. But how hard is the front to change? what is involved, ive never done any suspension work before only 20 years old:blah:

You need spring compressors to remove the spring off of the front shocks. I would suggest letting a professional handle the fronts because it's dangerous trying to remove the spring.

what he said. Those springs prolly have a little over 400lbs of pressure. Most body shops have them. i would think mechanic shops do as well

Re: bilstein shocks and springs

Um..... the BTS kit is not in any way something I'd use or recommend. And I say that despite them being a product I carry (and for a competitive price). The shocks are NOT really valved for the springs. The spring rate is extremely high in the rear too (more than what I run in my autox car). Actually, the springs are Hypercoils, and if you think about what springs cost, and add that to the cost of a normal set of Bilstein HD's, which is what these are but for some added bumpstops) you'll come out right about the price you see.

There are numerous better choices.

Re: bilstein shocks and springs

Would you be able to hook me up with a kit then? not cheap like 100 bucks but not expensive or high line. Im just lookin for a lowering kit that will work out with my stock 94 z28 that wont wear out steering or axle parts faster. You know like drive shaft degree change.... You would probably know a lot more about this then me but i was thinking at least in the 1" drop range. What would u suggest?

Would 1" make THAT much of a difference in handling? Also i dont want to go too low and look like a lowrider and scrape the front end everywhere.

Re: bilstein shocks and springs

check the link in my sig. I have a full write up in there (I believe page 2) for shox/spring install.

The front is a bit of work.

I rented a spring compressor from AutoZone. It worked fine. THe external one, btw.

I'm sure we can find you something that'll be workable for you. I really can't recommend anything here and now, e-mail leaves way too much to be desired in terms of clarity and explanations.

I'm not convinced you know if you want to be lowered. And no, you don't have to lower car to make an excellent handling machine. The shocks and bars are actually more important IMO than the springs are. Not saying springs don't or can't help, they do. I'm just saying that specific parts of the suspension do specific things and you might be looking to change something that's really the realm of something else.

Re: bilstein shocks and springs

No for sure i want to lower it, i treat my cars like gold. My camaro, i let it warm up till the smog pump shuts off.. Anyways thats besides the point, aside from handling performance, i want to get rid of some of that air between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender. I know i want to lower it but ive never done it before so thats why i have all these questions.

Would i need to mess with the control arms or get an adjustable panhard bar if i lower it an inch or inch and a half?

Also would i need polyeurethane bushings for my sway bars and endlinks?
Thanks for all the help so far

We are now getting far beyond where it's smart to rely on internet information. And it's quite tough to answer one question with the detail it deserves, let alone 3, 4 or more. It's why real business isn't done by e-mail, and it's why I don't really "work" by e-mail.

I've got zero problem with answering your questions, but we have to talk so I can do it and give you the answers that aren't just easy and will sell parts X, Y, and Z.

The short answer is some of the parts you mentioned are not necessary at all.

Trust Sam...he knows what he is talking about. I did...with only a half inch drop, and parts he recommended, my car's handling has increased ten-fold.

You won't be disappointed.
