autocrossing z28

For anybody who autocrosses their camaro, what suspension mods, specifically name brands/models would be optimum for track and street. I have my eyes set on firestone firehawk wide oval summer tires with if money allows, adjustable shocks. For shocks which is the best performer for the price? Is strut tower brace a good idea. Should i upgrade the stock sway bar or control arms? What is the actual function of a torque arm bar?

Better check your class rules to see what you can run first.

If you want autocross advice, you first need to determine what class you want to run in. In very general terms:

Stock = front sway bar, shocks, catback
Street Prepared = both sway bars, springs (coil overs), shocks, torque arm, panhard bar, full exhaust, wider wheels (plus shifter, and seat mods).
Street Tire = A street prepared car, plus upper control arms, but must use a street tire with a wear rating of 160 or higher.
Street Mod = all of the above, plus cam, heads, control arms
Prepared = Gutted interior type cars
Modified = "No really, it used to be a Z28."

The f-bod is not competitive in Street Mod nor Street Tire. It is very competitive in stock and street prepared. The strut bar is about the last mod to worry about with a 4th gen in any of the classes except stock, where it's not legal anyway.

As for tires, it depends on your strategy. If your area offers a generic street tire class like ours, you can build a car to any class (except Street Tire) and run against other cars on street tires on an indexed basis. Otherwise, you're going to want to find a used set of wheels and throw some DOT race rubber on them to be the most competitve. If you want to race on street tires, find some Kumho MX's. They are cheap, relatively speaking. Just don't expect them to last long and remember to rotate them front to rear a few times over the course of a full season.
