97 WS6 Height Vs. 98 WS6 Height?

Why do the 96-97 WS6 cars sit so much lower than the 98+ ones? My front wheel wells have almost no gap. New ones sit like trucks. Whats the difference?

I know the springs are different but, lighter engine?

I wouldnt think the engine weight would make THAT much of a difference. Its a thought though.
