96 Vette GS Brakes On Camaro

There is a chart in www.paceparts.com under the topic of "factory engineered race parts for Camaro and Firebird" for using 96 vette brakes on f-bodies with following explanations. Any ideas for these brakes in order to use on a 97 SS?

These modified components are used to adapt 1996 Corvette brakes to 1993-1999 Firebird and Camaro. This system is intended for racing only and is not intended for street use.

I believe the Baer Track kit is the exact same system, the only difference is you get a mounting bracket adaptor to place on your existing spindles instead of getting new spindles, and you get steel braided brake lines with the Baer kit.

Plus, I'm sure the Baer kit is a lot cheaper than this system from GM!!!

Re: 96 Vette GS Brakes On Camaro

It is the same as the Baer kit. I have the GS brakes on my 96 TA and did it for about $400. Calipers from Autozone $35 each + core. I just gave them my old calipers for the core, they did not know the difference. Also these are the 1LE calipers for the 3RD gen Camaro, but they use the same brake pad as the Corvette calipers, or Mustang Cobra calipers for that matter. They
are just 2 piston PBR calipers. The calipers I got from Autozone were BRAND NEW, not rebuilt. Then I got caliper mounting brackets for a 96 GS Corvette, I think they were about $35-$40 each. Rotors from discbrakesrus.com for $150 (both), $50 for pads and another $50 for stainless brake lines. They only hard part was making the mounting bracket. I made it out of 1/2" steel. I tried to buy the bracket from Baer, but they didn't want to sell it and said I would not want to pay the price they would want anyway so I said screw it and made my own. Turned out perfect and have had them on my car for almost 2 years. The 13" rotors look so much better inside my 17" wheels. My buddy also put the brakes on his 97 TA, but did it a different way. discbrakesrus.com used to sell the entire caliper assembly (caliper, bracket, brake pads, etc) for the Mustang for a good price. Just don't get the one that says "Cobra"!! I have not been to their web site lately, so I don't know if they still sell it that way. Then all you need would be rotors, brake lines, and mounting brackets. I like the 1LE calipers because they have fins and look similar to the LT1 rear calipers (just bigger and 2 piston). It took some effort but the results were worth it and I could not beat the price. The LS1 front brakes are probably better (just not a 13" rotor) and would be similar in price if not cheaper and easier to install. I wanted 13" rotors though. Baer must make a ton of money on their brakes.
