95 z28 Front brake upgrade questions
95 z28 Front brake upgrade questions
I have the opportunity to grab two spindles off of a 98 firebird. Will the larger rotors and dual piston calipers affect the abs on my 95? I’ve looked at the part numbers for the sensor on both and it’s the same speed sensor.
Re: 95 z28 Front brake upgrade questions
A lot of people have made the change and I don't recall anyone having issues with the ABS in the 25 years that I've been here (and on similar sites dealing with 4th Gens). Can't think of any reason it would cause a problem, As far as I know all the 4th Gens use the same spindle/bearing/sensor cartridge.
Re: 95 z28 Front brake upgrade questions
Ok sweet and for both spindles, calipers, rotors and brakes pads is 200 a good price? if I only upgrade the front to dual do I have to touch the rear or no? Is there a difference in the rear between the 93-97 to 98-02? And where can I find the torque spec for ball joints etc?
Re: 95 z28 Front brake upgrade questions
I have no idea what these parts cost, used or new. Yes, 98+ rear brakes are an upgrade. But no urgent need to upgrade the rear. The fronts do most of the work. Gets messy because the E-brake is a different design.
Re: 95 z28 Front brake upgrade questions
Thank you I did the conversion, fixed one of my abs sensors up front but the ones in the rear are ****ed either way. From what I’ve seen there is no replacement abs sensors for rear on 95 traction control made anymore correct?
could I replace entire rear end to newer one?
could I replace entire rear end to newer one?
Re: 95 z28 Front brake upgrade questions
Don’t know what's available for replacement rear TCS sensors.
If you're looking for an upgrade, like a 12-bolt or Dana 60, check with Strange Engineering. They may have a solution to TCS. I had a Strange 12-bolt with only ABS, and Strange supplied a single ABS sensor (non-stock) that worked, but it was not very reliable. Moser is another source for a 12-bolt.
Finding a used stock complete rear would also be an option, as long as it had the two ABS/TCS sensors. Any year 1995 to 2002 would work, although you would have the 98-02 parking brake activation issue. The 98-02 parking brake is a pair of shoes inside a small “drum” that’s part of the brake rotor. The cable arrangement is different. The replacement rear would also have to have the limited slip carrier and the same gear ratio as you currently have. A different ratio would require reprogramming the PCM.
