4X4 Camaro?!?!?!?!?!?

Just joking about the 4X4, but seriously, my friend just bought a '00 Z28 with 17" rims and 275/40/17's all around. The problem is, there is so much gap in the fender it looks like a friggin 4x4. I measured it on the rear, and if you come straight out from the top of the tire and measure it to the exterior of the fender, it is a 4" gap on the left and 3 1/4" gap on the right!!! How is this possible???? If he lowers the car 2", he will still have a 3/4" bigger gap on the left side. You guys are the experts let me know something.
