4 link in a 3rd gen

Hey all--
I'm new to this board. I have an 84 Z28 that I am customizing... It's going to have the IROC style front/rear bumpers and ground effects, it has a 4.75" fiberglass cowl hood, and will be getting re painted soon. I'm restoring and building this car as a weekend cruiser/strip machine. Some other mods that I will be adding as I can, is a 383 stroker, th400 transmission with 3800 stall, shift kit, trans brake, line loc, 6pt cage, sfc's, racing seats, and a 9" rear with 4.10 gears. It won't be TOTALLY street legal, because 3" dual exhaust that turns down under the front seats hinder the law... but here goes...

I'd like to either add a 4-link rear, or at least mini-tub it so I can run 15 x 10" rear rims with M/T ET Street cheaters. Right now I think the biggest rim I can fit in the rear are 8"s...

Anyone ever done this or know of an easier way to stuff in the 15/10" rims?

Thanks!!

I don't think the 3rd gen wheelwells are much different from a 4th gen, you can fit some wide tires under them. With the proper backspacing, I've seen a set of 18" Z06 wheels and 335 tires under the back of a 3rd gen. This was done w/ minimal changes to the body/wells.

I've got a 275/60 drag radial and 28x10.5W tire under my '95. Not a direct swap, but if you're wanting to 4-link the car, I don't think you're shy about doing some work w/ a cut-off and a hammer.

I havent seen a 4 link setup, but I've seen laderbar setups done. Here is one on a 4th gen....the rears are identical, so there is no reason you shouldnt be able to do it on a 3rd gen.

A 4-link can be put into just about any car you want, but it is a LOT of work, and not for the beginner DIYer...

I've done a few, and they all turned out decent...

****Side-note*** If I were to do another pro-street car for either myself or someone else who wanted to do things "right" (This is a personal preferance on what is right), I'd build a tube-frame car if I had the chance; instead of merging the stock front with an aftermarket back-half...

why do you want to 4 link it? there are plenty of guys here running similar setups to what you described with stock design and having great results.

i'm not running that fat of a tire but i do have 295/35/18's on a 10" rim with no problems at all....i later did some fender work but that's because i wanted everything as far in the well as possible so i could lower the car. between all the bars you can put on these cars and my 6 pt cage it's plenty sturdy enough for my 388.

Honestly I don't have a super solid reason for wanting to do a back half...

In my area it's common for these F Body's to rust out on the inner fenders. And mine is no exception... I just figured it would be easy to tub it and go with a 2 by 3" rear frame and 4-link it.

What kind of work did you have to do to stuff a 10" rim back there? If I can get away with doing an easy mod I would... why spend the money if it's not neccessary? I won't be lowering the vehicle, I'd actually like to raise the rear an inch and drop the front one...

I am running the 225/65 R 15's, cooper cobras... I believe thats about a 26 inch tire... and I'd like to have a 28" in the rear and stay with the 26 in front as well..
