Question 1998 Camaro does not have dual piston calipers?

I through I found my dual piston calipers off a 1998 Camaro in the slavage yard today.
But it did not have them.
I throught that all 1998-2002 V6's & V8's had the dual piston calipers.
What's up with that?

They did have them, are you sure it was really a 1998 model?

Well The EPA sticker under the hood said it was a 1998.
I will check the door sticker and also check the vin.
just don't make sense to me.
I have been looking for about 2 years to come across one of these an my local slavage yard.
They give me gread deals.
I'll post back when I find out more about it.

Why do you think it doesn't have dual piston calipers? Also, it's pretty easy to tell which is a 98+ camaro and what's a 97 and below. Just look at the front bumper.

Re: 1998 Camaro does not have dual piston calipers?

I used to work in a parts store...just buy the remans for the LS1 cars and use your LT1 calipers as cores...they will never know nor will they care they aren't right as long as there is a old caliper in the box...buying junk yard calipers is sorta iffy IMO...ramans can be had cheap enough and with warranty...
EDIT: this was assuming your doing an LS1 swap...if not never mind...

Black Z28,

I looked at the calipers it has one piston not two.
I have a 1997 Camaro Z28 so I know what a 1998 looks like.
The 1998's had the new design front endm and the LS1's.
This Camaro has a EPA sticker that says it's a 1998 with a V6.
And it has a single piston calipers "just like my 1997 Camaro Z28".

Good idea.

The rear calipers on all 4th gens are single piston. Are you sure you didn't grab the rear calipers instead of the fronts?

Dan,
I have not grabed anything yeat.
Nope they are not the back ones.
But since you brought it up the rear brakes are the new one's.
The one's with the parking brake inside the rotor.
I have to go to the slavage yard tomarrow to get some wire conectors.
So I will take my little camera with me and take some pictures.
After a picture is worth a thousand words.

Ok here are the pictures.
You cab see that it has the 1993-1997 front brakes.
And the rear is the 1998-2002 brakes.

So what's the deal?
It has a build date of March of 1998.

Thanks,

Re: 1998 Camaro does not have dual piston calipers?

Having worked i the parts biz for a while it's not entirely uncommon for a company to use up some old parts on newer cars if they will fit...looks like that is what happened here...probably a very early 98 or so using old LT1 brakes...my best guess...your luck is like mine if they made one car like this I would find it

Re: 1998 Camaro does not have dual piston calipers?

If you got the spindles and rotors I would just do as someone suggest and go down to Auto Zone and get some reman 98 calipers. If not you can buy everything you need to do for the swap on Ebay for like $200... mine shipped was $230.

Re: 1998 Camaro does not have dual piston calipers?

i did an ls1 upgrade on my 3rd gen, and the calipers i bought from autozone did not come wth the caliper brackets or guide pins, i dont think any parts store carrys the bracket so u need to get it from a junkyard because dealer wants like 120 each, unless of course the bracket is the same for lt1 single piston calipers, but i doubt that

Re: 1998 Camaro does not have dual piston calipers?

It may have been repaired.

Crash damage prior to the current accident.

Sloppy job, most people wouldn't know the difference and those Lt1 parts would fit an LS1.
