Time for a real clutch, street twin GP anyone?

Well i thought i got lucky with my spec III but sure enough the springs went and spec wants damn near $700 for a new setup with a flywheel that their clutch took with when it broke. So i guess its time for a twin, who can get us a good price?

I can work on some numbers for this. 6 or more orders would be needed. Who else needs a Street Twin?

Count me in for a street twin if you're doing a GP - definitely! My clutch is starting to slip and I won't be going to the track until I have a street twin. PM me (or post) info on shipping costs/logistics to London, Ontario, Canada area please.

Thanks.

You can check it out on TBYRNE's site, as well as http://www.mcleodind.com/.

The street twin is made by McLeod Industries, and uses two clutch discs with a floater plate between them (hence the "twin" part of the name), compared to the single disc of a standard clutch. All else being equal (pedal effort, friction material, clamping force, etc.), having two discs means twice the holding power.

This clutch is regarded by many of the most respected members of this board to be the best clutch you can get for the LT1/T-56 combo. The street twin can handle major horsepower, yet is still eminently daily-driver capable. From what I've read, they're nearly as smooth engaging as the stock clutch (once the street twin is broken-in), and don't require much more than stock pedal effort. I don't recall ever seeing a HP rating for this clutch, but...

Tanner Bosnali has the world's fastest 6-speed f-body at 9.40@149.2, has pulled a 1.277 60' , and he uses a Mcleod Street Twin.

Roman Littman runs 9's in his f-body, has posted 1.33 60' times, and uses a Street Twin.

And I've read rskrause, the Drivetrain forum mod, recommending the street twin on more than one occasion.

Street Twins aren't cheap, but they're the best. The kits include flywheel, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bushing, and master cylinder. They're available in two flavours... with a flywheel balanced for a stock LT1, and neutral balanced for motors like my internally balanced 383. Flywheels are your choice of billet steel or, for a premium price, billet aluminum.

I'll openly admit that I'd like to drum up support for this GP, since I need a street twin. But nothing in this post is an exageration.

I'd be interested depending on pricing.

LT1 Street Twin w/ Steel Flywheel (Neutral Balance).

Re: Time for a real clutch, street twin GP anyone?

well, what is the cost for me. 95 LT1. 383 stroker, internal balance, but they used my stock flywheel to balance the rotating assembly, does that matter? This is a daily driver, around 450RWHP, so I am guessing I would want steel, right? Isn't aluminum only good for drag cars, or am I wrong here?
Thanks
Cody

Alot of road race/autocross guys go with the aluminum flywheels. Not to many people use this for drag racing.

Well.....I'm not so sure I need a Street Twin, but I'm pretty sure I'll need a clutch pretty soon, so I want to see just how good these prices are.
Sent you mail Tom.....

He's right, the prices are "real goooooddddd".

How many people do we have in on this so far? Also, how long would we have to get in on the GP?
