Re: Spec Stage 3 GP anyone?

I have a SPEC S2 in my other car, and it's great. Has over 15K on it, hard driving, well over 300 HP (It's a 4 banger, come on), has never slipped, chattered, anything, and the pedal feel is awesome. Their customer service is top notch as well. I had a buddy of mine explode a Stage 3, but they should have been running a stage 4 at least. They blew the entire kit apart. PP and clutch disk. It was totally freak. SPEC replaced it anyway, even though it wasn't totally their fault. The clutch wasn't made for that much power, but they agreed that it shouldn't have exploded like that.

I'll never buy any other clutch brand... I wouldn't hesitate to buy an ACT, but I have no reason to steer from SPEC.

Re: Spec Stage 3 GP anyone?

From what I've gathered SPEC on other cars != SPEC on F-body/Y-body cars.

To name a few local guys from my car club:
- LT1 headed, fairly mild 383 car on DR's, exploded SPEC Stage III on launch (Kevlar or Carbon, not sure), destroying bellhousing, input shaft, tranny case, flywheel, hole in tranny tunnel. Clutch had a couple thousand miles on it.

- Bone stock LT1 car, Stage III Carbon, first had PP bolts back out (proper torque, no loctite, as we found the painted PP requires loctite or the bolts WILL back out). Kit #2, car had all sorts of clutch issues w/ not engaging right and being undriveable. Kit #3 worked a short while, but he didn't trust it and went another route

- MY CAR. Stage III Carbon. Kit #1 10k miles, mild track use, mostly highway miles. Took out for other car issues, found one of the metal retainer for the disc hub springs broke. Had I driven much longer like that, disaster would have occured. Also, the disc was very worn down for the amount of use it has, and I know how not to wear a clutch out (have been driving stick since day one of driving, never, EVER ride the clutch or rest my foot on it, never power shift, etc.). Guy above gave me his 3rd setup, installed in my car, has been good so far, though I'm playing w/ fire and on borrowed time.

- One w/ Stage II, one w/ Stage III SPEC setups on LS1 cars. Neither happy with them. Switch to a Cartek setup, and couldn't be happier.

My SPEC Stage III is the 4th and 5th clutch in my car. Stock lasted until nitrous was applied. Clutchnet organic disc/LT4 PP could hold the power at the time, but would slip w/ better than a 2.1 60'. Clutchnet kevlar/bronce disc, LT4 PP, held all the power you could dish to it, was very unstreetable (like an on-off switch), 3 months of light use and all of the pucks on the disc exploded.

If I were to do it all over again, a Street Twin would be in my car without a second thought. And I'd have far less time/money invested overall. I do know SPEC will never see another dime of my money. From what I'm told, SPEC has fixed a couple of their problems, using more pucks per disc and stronger metal for the spring retainers, but I've still got a bad taste from the stuff I've seen from them, and wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
