Need new engine

Looks like I blew a couple of rods? Anyway, I wanted to know if I can buy a LS6 engine and have it installed in my 98 z28? Also, how much we talkin? What suggestions do you have for me as far as engine replacements and approximate pricing? Here's my thinking.......how much is a ls6 does it fit....how much is a souped up ls1......what's the difference in horsepower? Is it worth it? Gotta make a decision by the end of today. Thanks for any suggestions/advice......

You might want to try LS1 tech...they would probably give you some good info on costs in a timely maner...unless you were looking at a group purchase on a suped up ls1 or a LS6. Not too sure.

This question will probably be moved to another forum, but since my Z in in the shop right now, I've got pricing on an ls6 install.

A new ls6 longblock is $5230 shipped. I've got a local shop that qouted me $600 for the install, or the dealer wanted $1200 for the install. The advantage to going with an ls6 longblock over a built ls1 is that the ls6 longblock comes with a 12 month/12K mile warranty from GM that covers both parts and labor. I couldn't find anyone that would warranty their built ls1.

Your prices seem good compared to what I've come across. Right now I'm deciding on whether I go with an LS1 with headers and a hot cam or a LS6 with a cam. Both are supposedly going to get me to 450hp. I'm not sure whether I should go with a small block or long block. I understand that small blocks are easier to modify....is that the only advantage?

as far as i knew, when u buy a long block...its a motor thats already together such as internals, heads, but no intake usually. a short block is internals and the block...no heads/intake.

hope that helps
