what the hell for.....they are a complete ripoff.........they list for $700......so even if you had a huge GP, i doubt the price would go below $600

you can buy the exact same chambered mufflers from http://www.sweet-thunder.com/chambered.htm#stainless for like $66 each.......then goto a custom exhaust shop and have the whole thing welded up for a few hundred $ and you saved yourself a ton of money.

F-bodyhideout is the only message board I know that ever starts GMMG GPs because you have to get them direct from GMMG. GMMG is not a paying advertiser on this board so it won't happen here.

Also I find it annoying how many people say GMMG is a ripoff at $700. Sure it costs a lot but so does Borla, Corsa and B&B Tri-flo... I never hear people calling those three a rip off... what gives? GMMG owns them all in sound

did you even read my post? its a ripoff because you can have the EXACT same thing built for under $400.

maybe YOU like throwing away $300, but most intelligent people would prefer to save it.

So those chambered mufflers are the same as the GMMG's? How close have people come to the sound of the GMMG? I think I'll look into making my own.

yeah they are the same......there isnt exactly a whole lot you can change about the design......the sound is going to be pretty similar.......im not sure what lenght muffler they use on the GMMG, but im sure someone can measure it.

im doing a true dual setup with these mufflers, maybe i can get a soundclip afterwards.

If we can get a good price on it, I'd be in. Even if it's $600, it's still $100 you can spend on something else.

The GMMG is the best sound I've ever heard on a LT1! I've been browsing and looking around for alternatives or even copies of it and although people claim they have the same sound, it's almost never exactly like it. It seems to me that the sound on deceleration is the most difficult to control. I can find plenty of exhaust systems that sound good on acceleration, but when you lift off the throttle, it sounds raspy or like a tin can. The closest to the GMMG sound I found was the Dynomouth, but again on decel it's not that great. And since I don't feel like changing out my exhaust three times to get it right and end up spending the same $$, I'd rather go with the original even though it may cost a lot more right away.

JMHO,

Sam

Well put! The only poeple that I ever here bad mouth the GMMG setup are poeple that do not, or have never owned the system. I have been putting off buying one for well over a year, but hated the cost factor! Oh well, I am number one on the list for buying the system on F-Bodyhideout, it may cost too much, but I don't feel like buying another exhaust for my SS again! Oh and free shipping total cost is $650!

Hey guys, does anyone have a sound clip/picture of this exhaust? Maybe a link to a vendor that sells it?

I hear a lot of talk about exhaust sytems on this board, but the GMMG is the only one I have never seen pictures or heard sound clips of.

My Borla sounds great, but the raspy sound on deceleration sucks bad. If the GMMG doesn't do this I might be interested too.

GMMG has 4 movies of their exhaust on their site. Also if you do a search on it on this board you'll find a few movie clips... mine included

Too bad the sound clips on the GMMG site are of modded cars. I've always loved the sound of that 435hp WS6 I wonder what kind of cam that guy has in there?

FWIW I have heard 2 sweet thunder custom fabbed setups, one on an LS1 and one on a 95 pickup truck. They both cost ~$500 all said and done. Neither sounded as good as a GMMG. Both rasped a bit up high and the LS1 install looked sloppy, as have other GMMG rip-off style setups on LT1's and LS1's who have posted pics on the net. I would have been embarrassed to have them on my car, not for sound, but the sloppiness..........They are a cheaper alternative, don't get me wrong, but they do NOT sound exactly like the GMMG and don't look as nice. If you are looking for a GMMG type sound cheap, get a Gale Banks stinger setup, they sound about the same as a custom chambered setup, mean, deep down low, but a lil raspy up high. $700 shipped is not a bad deal for what you get, very competitively priced with other 'high quality' systems. Oh, and it BLOWS the hooker out of the water!
Your call, just my .02.

that has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the muffler, that is the fault of the installer.

of course no custom setup is going to sound exactly like the GMMG because every setup has different variables

pipe diameter?
headers?
true duals or ypipe?
cam profile?

all those things change the way it sounds.

also the sweet thunder company offers different lengths of muffler, which is also going to change the sound depending on what lenth you choose.

the only thing i was pointing out is that if you want a chambered muffler sound, there is no reason to pay $700.......you can design your own for about 1/3rd the price.

Math 101-1/3 of $700......$233.33. Pass the pipe this way if you honestly believe you can do it that cheap. And if you can I doubt that it will last long. Price out a SS system with a lifetime warranty and see if you can get it made for less than $450-500. Use crappy pipe and crappy chambers, sure, you could get it to the $350-400 range, but when it rusts through your SOL. Show me as custom setup that looks as tight as the GMMG. Oh thats right, I forgot, they all have looked like sh*t up to now. If you want GMMG sound get the real deal, if you want a setup that shares some properties of GMMG make your own. But enjoy the not-so-deep, kinda raspy sound you get. When you get along side a car with GMMG and you go 'Damn, I love that exhaust, what is it?' and they say GMMG you'll wish you did it once and did it right. I have heard 2 01 WS6's, stock cam, stock heads, stock manifolds, etc, ONLY difference was custom chambered vs. GMMG. The kid that fabbed up the setup promptly said the GMMG was superior, sold his old setup and bought the real deal. He had the sweet thunder chambers. What about headers? My buddy with the 01 WS6 added jet-hot long tubes. How does it sound? NO RASP NO DRONE, meaner, and deeper than it did with the GMMG, not to mention louder. Find another setup like that that can boast those accolades. Most rasp, drone, make you deaf, and just all around sound bad (IMO). This crying about GMMG being overpriced is old and tired, I won't disagree that it is expensive, but its worth every penny. We could go aroundin circles all day about custom this vs the real deal at the savings of what may end up being a few hundred dollars, with less quality install, sound, etc. Good luck with your setup and make sure you link pics and sound.
Brian
BTW, not all cars on GMMG's websites for the sound clips are heavily modified cars.
