What is the quietest performance muffler?

Anyone know what the quietest performance muffler for our cars is?

I'm trying to quiet it down to avoid potential run-ins with the sound police, or any police that happen to hear the engine winding out...

Thanks

Probably a Magnaflow muffler.

That was my first mod. ever and it was a hair louder than stock.

Let me know if you want to buy mine with its outlet pipes. $40.

I have a Hooker system now...and it's pretty loud under acceleration. Sometimes it's cool, but most of the time I'd like to "feel the power" in stealth mode.

PS: SFB767: I sent you a PM.... I'm interested in the muffler.

I would think it would be the stock SS muffler. From what I understand, it flows pretty well... it's just quiet.

SLP dual/dual muffler, or Dynomax Ultra Flow in stainless steel, not the welded flowmaster look alike. They both by far are the most quiet, and don't hurt power. I only picked up about 3 RWHP opening my cut out when I had the dual/dual. A friend of mine w/ a H/C SS had similar results and made about 100 more RW than me.

FYI - SLP has discontinued the dual/dual, but I see lots of people cutting them off because they want it louder.

I wanted louder, and went true duals FTW.

Wow, magnaflow is considered quite? I've gone through several cat-backs, and magnaflow is definitely not one of the quieter ones

We're talking about replacement mufflers, not cat-backs. And yes, my Maganaflow muffler was extremely quiet, for my taste at least.

After I had it installed, I turned the key, and my immediate thought was, "Sh**, waste of $200."

That cat-back actually sounds pretty good. There's a guy near me who has an LS1 SS with that cat-back (not sure what else the car has) and it's got a very nice tone to it.

Re: What is the quietest performance muffler?

I had the cat back on my car for quite some time. First, my car was mostly stock w/ !cats & stock manifolds. Then with LT's & an ORY. It was very mellow, and was great at highway speeds. When I knew I was going to retire the car from DD duty, I went for the TSP duals. I don't mind it being loud when I only plan to drive it 2, maybe 3 days per week.

I like both, but prefer the duals now because they just sound so damn awesome. But, if I were building another LS1 car with the intention of a DD, or needed it quiet for a particular reason - i.e. neighborhood assoc. - I would go with an SLP dual/dual in a heartbeat.

I am on my 4th exhaust system on my car currently.

4th cat-back, man, that's crazy.

After I had my LTs installed, my car sounded incredible, then a month later, I became bored with it and want it louder and throatier. I was thinking true duals, but I heard they rattle the hell out of your car.

It depends on the muffler, and how they are mounted. If you use the hangers supplied in the kit, they lag through the floorboards. I did that and the vibration w/ bullets wasn't too bad, but could be better. Also the TSP system points the dumps straight down, angled would be better - it's something else I'm looking into. I had worse vibrations w/ stock manifolds, no cats, and a "dynomouth" system. I'm going to revise my hanger arrangement when I get close to putting the car back together.

For mufflers, you can go with the spiral flows. They are much more mellow at cruise & idle, and quieter in car. But, still very aggressive when you go WOT.

If you are interested in duals, I have a local hook up - $400 installed w/ all materials. This place is the only place I let toouch my car or truck.
