"old slow relics? I've got one you can try your luck with"

What I meant by that is that by stocking the stores with parts for 60s cars, that's the clientelle you will attract. Mullet people with old crapped out Novas and Mopars... 70s F-bodies. I never go to local speed shops because they either have parts for ricers or mulletmobiles.

I wasn't implying that all old cars are slow... that would be ridiculous. But I'd be glad to race you in your tubbed out race car with my cross country-touring 67 Camaro. How many you gonna put me out since I'm on 8" tires?

I have found a shop with all of that, it's a transmission shop in the central FL area, family owned and operated for about 40 yrs. These guys are extremely knowledgeable above anything else and they have great customer service.

If you want the name of this shop and directions, just send me an e-mail, I will be happy to give it to you.

What would be cool in a shop:

Clean, Some flash, a web site and message board, connections to a race team or parts supplier (zano, amsoil, wenol, por 15).

Keep wires in stock, plugs, tranny/oil coolers, K&N filters and Cold Air Intakes (super tube). Offer online shopping and local delivery. Open Saturday 10AM-4 or 5 and open sunday for a few hours, computer editing obd 1 and 2.

located near waterford or the speed world
high octane gas 100 unleaded for sale

Connections with a local salavge yard so your customers can get a discount!!!! Or your own fbody salavge yard.... I would love to help out on that... Does not have to be fbodies completly:

row one, third gen, row 2 fourth, row 3, mustang, row 4 civics only, row 5 accura's row 6 vettes only... Only stock those cars and have atleast 50 on hand of each type... Also hire educated guys not hicks... Say you can not afford those with an education... I would work for 8-10 bucks an hour and a discount on parts on the weekend... I have a BA and working on a masters..

i never mentioned anything about carbs. please stick to the subject.

btw, turbos can be used on a carbed engine.

Yeah.......cause turbos were banned. Now there is an finally a class that allows them. This still has nothing to do with why a turbo should only be used on a diesel.

cause no one has been working on them over the years. people are just recently beginning to make turbo kits, so of course they are expensive. anything is expensive when its new.
Hmm......still no mention about diesels.

Well, there is my justification.
justification? wtf.....you still havent even come remotely close to saying ANYTHING that backs up your previous statement. you just went off on totally unnecessary tangets.

you said "turbos are for diesels"..........explain to me why a turbo should stick to a diesel engine, and not be used on a gas engine?

hahah........the turbo itself for a good single kit cost about $1000.

a good supercharger kit costs atleast $3500-4000..........and they have been in production for a long time.......i doubt any GOOD turbo kit will be cheaper than that, unless you build it yourself.

Back to the subject: Let me throw out a couple more ideas here:
Used, warrantied f-body parts....buy/sell/trade...What do you think?
What if there was one shop that could take care of EVERYTHING regarding upgrades w/ special discounts on packages? Example:You bring in your 02 Z28 for Wheels, suspension, ground effects, custom stripes or flames or complete color change, nitrous, a competition quality stereo, carbon fiber interior trim, white faced guages, exhaust, a program and a before vs. after dyno pull and dB pull......Your savings over having each done @ an individual shop totals $1,000 or more. As a bonus, you get free nitrous refills for 3 months ( 1 per week), $100 off your next purchase, a deep discount on future tire purchases. While you're at it, this shop also offers professional detailing and lubricant changes by someone that actually knows what they're doing....

I would be clean used parts.... I would buy body parts, engine parts, anything to keep me cleaner than a junkyard... Heck I will be the go pull guy for fun as long as I get first dibbs....

I wouldn't buy used alternators, power steering pumps, I would go heads, valve covers, mirrors, door panles, interior...

Plus a website would be easy... I ran a comptuer web business... TechnicalUniverse.com never really did much, got bored with it. Might turn it into a message board now Plus I know a great website creator.. I stink but can do it, but this guy rocks.... Poor College kid, expert in flash, databse driven sites, needs money... email him at michael@no-nothingrock.com

links to some of his work:

Mike is a god when it comes to html... I bet for 500 bucks he could create a nice entry level site (intro page, message board)... Updates would run say 50-100 per month at most I am guessing...

My prices are all guesses... Email him!!!

personally.........i think all those ideas are great.....but not for starting out.

you gotta start out small, and work your way up.

start with a small shop, selling parts at a great price to locals and internet.......and do enough installs to get the word around.

They are great but the idea of keeping parts in stock and on hand is kinda hard, it tkes alot of capitl investmetn and ties his money up on parts that sit on a shelf it won't be a good idea because honestly how often do peopel buy plus, for f-body specific cars. Thats why the big guys do this, it ties up money that can be used for research, and expanding if you have parts on the shelf.

(yes I just took a test in managerial accoutning 5 min. ago)

I woudl look into diversifying, all kinds of cars, and though alot mey be agianst but you woudl be dumb to stay away from the import crowd.

Overheard in class today
(I jsut got the XXX catback for $590, group purchase usually costs $660)

and the other guy was osbsessed with pulleys, and throttle reponce tricker mods. Sounded like something that would mess with his TPS thinking it wouldgive him 7 hp.

IF you come off as a shop that is professional and knows a little(do not need to bbe experts, but be able to get the info) what you are talking about, it would do fine.

I can tell you know alot of stuff mentioned would not be profitable to do.

If you are looking for peopel I would be willing ot work for real cheap(maybe minimum wage), but my schedule might have to be pretty flexible.
