Vibrating Speaker?

I've had a system in my car for almost half a year, recently (about 2-3 weeks) I've noticed a vibrating sound coming from my driver side front speaker. It only does this vibrating sound when there is a good amount of bass. Either a song with decent bass or I put the radio on D-Bass 3. Anyhow, I took off the grille a little and looked at it and everything looked fine, and it sounds like the vibrating is coming from inside the speaker and not just external parts vibrating. I can put the radio signal to Front and Left so only sounds comes out of it and it sounds fine, besides the vibrating, so I don't think its blown. Has anyone come across anything like this? and if so, what should I do?

sounds like its blown to me. the speaker itself doesn't have to look damaged to be blown. its probably the voice coil.

But the fact that I can set the fade all the way to the front, and the balance all the way to the left, so only that "blown" speaker is on; and it still sounds great. Its not like its a muffled sound or anything, it just has that vibrating noise with bass, the rest of the speaker sounds fine.

What you could be hearing is distortion in the speaker.

Re: Vibrating Speaker?

the voice coil is the part inside the magnet, that pushes & pulls the paper cone back & forth. you can't see the mechanical joint from the outside.

so the voice coil has come loose off the cone, and it smacks the cone on deep bass notes, and makes the noise

it came loose when you played it too loud, the voice coil went too deep for the cone, and they separated. deep bass notes are the only excursoin that cause enough vibration to rattle things.

Re: Vibrating Speaker?

It happened to my car twice. The first time it happened, the dealer told me it was a piece of trim by the speaker that worked its way loose. The second time, it turned out it was a blown speaker.

Re: Vibrating Speaker?

Well I moved my balance to the right a few and the fade to the back a little and now I can use my system again without hearing the vibrating. Am I pretty much at the point of needing to get component speakers? Seems odd the speaker busted at 22000 miles.
